WNCP Curriculum and Mathematics Proficiencies
At the Whitehorse (85th) BCcupms meeting, Jim Bailey presented a study
comparing the proposed content of the WNCP Mathematics curriculum for BC/Yukon with the
mathematics proficiencies expected by post-secondary mathematics/statistics instructors in
college and university. The the slides accompanying Jim's presentation are available
HERE. As a convenience,
the Mathematics
Proficiencies study is also available.

Placement Tests for Calculus I (Survey Results)
Completed in April 2001 by David Leeming of the University of Victoria, this report is a summary of
the results of a survey of BC's post-secondary educational institutions on their use of Placement Tests for Calculus I.
If relevant information from your post-secondary institution was not reported, please

First-Year Core Calculus
The
First-Year Core Calculus Report to the BCcupm was unanimously approved (all
recommendations) at the May 2002 Meeting of the BCcupm. This Report was prepared by
a team representing various sectors of the post-secondary mathematics education community
in BC and the initiative was supported by BCCAT
under a Transfer Innovations Project grant.

Mathematics Flexible Pre-Major
Some colleges striving to provide for their students a variety of courses sufficient to
allow entry into the third year of a Mathematics Major program at university urged that a
study of program requirements for a Math Major and of the status of present offerings at
BC colleges be undertaken.
In this regard, the Mathematics Flexible Pre-Major
Analysis Project Report gives an insight into the challenges and opportunities for
students, colleges and universities. It also suggests a set of first-and second-year
courses that should form the core of a Math Pre-Major program. The BCcupms approved
the Recommendations of the Report in May 2006.

Report, click HERE.
At its May 2008 meeting, the BCcupms endorsed an updated version of the
course details for the Mathematics Flexible Pre-Major. The report
containing this updated information can be obtained

Dynamic Resources for Math/Stats Courses
Web-based Resources for College Mathematics and Statistics
At its May 1999 Meeting the BCcupm initiated a project to identify suitable web-based
learning materials on a more detailed basis than are available in most existing resource
guides. It is hoped that this project, chaired by Alan Cooper at Langara
College, will enable students quickly to find reliable materials in support of their
immediate learning objectives, and that it may also provide an effective medium for
faculty to distribute the new mathematics/statistics resources that they create.
